Let me go

Let me go

A Poem by Danielle Khairallah
"

A kind of letter to my parents! ...not that they'll ever read it...

It doesn’t matter what you think
Whether my mood’s black or pink
It doesn’t matter when you say
I’m not who I should be today

I don’t know what you’ve been through
Or how life really was and is for you
I don’t know how you lived back then
Don’t compare before counting to ten!

You see, we are not the same
Even if I have your last name
Because you are you and I am me
So you’d better face this reality

I think it’s time to let me go
I need to think for myself you know!
Give me a bit of space please
You don’t have to watch me sneeze!

I’ve got my own plans now you see
Ideas for the future, planned excitedly
And don’t you dare try to interfere
There’s nothing u say I’d want to hear

You may not understand that fact
But I’ve made myself a pact
My future I will thoroughly pursue
I won’t let go of my dreams for you!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe
That there’s nothing I can’t achieve
I am capable of what you call impossible
I can cross over the edge, it’s possible

Whenever you think the end is near
The thoughts in my head are too clear
To get me buried in your stormy seas
You’re so consumed in your crises

I fear you may give up on me one day
You’re too old for this game to play
You worry too much and can’t take risks
As I fight against odds to burn my disk

My disk, my life, my own way to be
Not you, not them, but simply me
Your love gave me the time to age
But now it’s protecting me in a cage

Even if you don’t see who I am today
I’ve grown, and I’ve chosen my way
I don’t need to listen to you much longer
My path is set, I follow it with hunger

Don’t worry, you’re not losing your child
I’m still here, older, mature and wild
Time for you to set me free, now u know
That it is time for you to let me go.

Wow!! This is an excellent, strong piece! Your parents need to know this is how you feel. I love the open expression! Good Job!
