The Dream

The Dream

A Poem by Danny Coykendall

As I lay beneath a blank canvas sky, I feel deepness.

Sinking into slumber yet safely afloat.

Unattached to the thoughts of yesterday and tomorrow.

Only to imagine what is now.

A calmness blankets me with such familiarization and order.

Breath is steady and my heartbeat remains a lullaby.

A light breaks the sky, adding life to the grey.

Beauty only imagined once upon a time.

I sit upward to spot an open field.

How the light simply touches it with tranquility.

Beautiful in the most astonishing way.

Bliss fills this place.

I set my eyes to the horizon.

I do not care how far nor how long it will take to reach it.

I have no need to travel.

I am still, I am at peace, now.

I lay back down, and a smile fills my face.

I close my eyes only to reopen them in a dark space.

I am in my bed once more staring into nothingness, colorless.

Now I realize, only I can add color to my life.

Only I can find beauty were beauty is lost, to make dreams reality.

I love the emotion and how it takes you from a peacefulness to hope. It think that this flows well and that it very beautifully reflects those feelings without getting cliche. It also seems to tell a story which is always really cool in a poem. :) Well done!
