The RiverA Poem by Danny CoykendallAs the water breaks, emotions will sail. The wind shall guide my thoughts. It seems shallow, but runs much deeper. It flows. It breaks in two as a decision must be made. Never knowing which direction is right from wrong. No matter which stream I take. It flows. Continuing along this river of life. Many obstacles lay in my sight. I may crash, I may sink, but no matter the case. It still flows. Through night and day for endless journeys. I remain afloat. The water often cold with short bursts of warmth. It still flows. I struggle sometimes to keep above the water. Something will always try to bring me down. I must resurface again with a smile on my face. It continues to flow. Every chance to drown. Every chance to lose hope. I hold my breath. It continues to flow. The river one day will lower to puddles. I will be left in dust. Until my tears are the only hydration. The river is dry. Until it is filled again for my children. I shall sit in the desert. To close my eyes and be one with the sand. The wind will take me away. © 2016 Danny CoykendallReviews
