Winter

Winter

A Poem by Danny Coykendall

The snow falls from the sky

like ashes to a flame

the cremation of autumn's end

every year is the same

the leaves once beautiful

magnificent hues of yellow and red

only to plummet to the icy ground

cold, battered, and dead

the tree once was strong as a king

nothing could tear it down

now the frost breaks its back

it snaps and loses its crown

the wind cuts through my body

it carries my pleasure away

my blood is ice within my veins

now only the pain will stay

my eyes sealed shut with my tears

I never will open my eyes to this

I never want to see another day in winter

I only desire for summers bliss

my sorrow is disfigured

disguised by the frost on my face

no matter what season I will never escape

from winter's frozen embrace

Such nice words and well-written piece. Fine pattern, well crafted. You know how to deal with words, it seems; creating beautiful images and entertaining pieces of poetry.

I love the "cremation of autumn's end" bit. This guy seems like he really hates winter ;)
