Shakespeare is a one off but I reckon there will be 21st century poets, remembered for their works too. When it comes to the arts, it seems you fare better in the public domain when you are no longer breathing. Yep, you have to be dead and buried, look at Plath.
Dearest Danny
What’s wrong with 21st century poetry? It’s like a fabulous Jasper Johns painting….everyone has different tastes…. I will sample them all!
Best, B.
I wouldn't count out this generation too much, there's just a fair amount of people who just don't know poetry, and favour certain writers that fellow writers might think less of. It's more so 21st century poetry doesn't understand good poetry, rather than is incapable of it. You have to look for it, as there are many pieces that don't cut it for me, it's buried, but it's there.
I am a writer, poet and playwright.
All works are first drafts.
My favorite writers are: Arthur Rimbaud, William S Burroughs, Clarice Lispector, Robert Walser, Julio Cortazar, Mikhail Bulgakov,.. more..
