December SkyA Story by DannyLynne RileyDecember was a desolate sky...a pale sky draped around an inconsolable sun ...a marker for the endless days when we would rise and struggle to move forward against the poor choices we had made. We spent our precious moments on folly as if we had an unlimited supply of them... as if it were possible to return the ones that were wrongly colored or didn't seem to fit. But there are no gift receipts for time and once it moves into existence you can not take it back. Like the hurtful notions we slung upon the walls of our hearts, doing our best to scrub them clean after the fact...even still...the stain remains
December was a bleeding sky...a crimson sky that settled in drifts of silence against the questions where the answers were not mine to have, nor did I have the right to seek them. None-the-less they burn within me like the gnaw of uneasiness for that thing I know not...for that thing I can not name.
December was a dark page... A cradle for the pearls dripping from my pen.... lost in the vortex, where words go to die, were the things we said and all that we didn't and all the invisible conversations we never had... along with the shame we wrapped them in as we tossed them into the sea of someday...into the sea of never
December was a sad farewell a proper send off to signal the end of an era. We said goodbye to the ones we loved and then clung to what we hated and lost ourselves somewhere in between
But December was my breaking dawn it was the strength I found that was there all along hidden in the mist was my January song that glorious wail was my birthing cry it was the power I held to take back my life
