Strangers

Strangers

A Poem by Danielle Renee

We’ve got a past
of shallow memories,
unspoken thoughts, and
awkward eye contact.
But I’ve never worked up
the nerve to say hello,
I guess that’s from the
many years I spent alone.
As I look at you from
across the room I see
you pour your pain
into that leather book
of yours and your deep
blue eyes stare away from
mine all the time.
It is such a challenge
not to know you.
