Insomniac

Insomniac

A Poem by Danielle Renee

I’m hundreds
Of feet into the sea
While your roaming somewhere,
Somewhere in this galaxy or the next.
These loaded questions and these empty
Answers must be your lost rest. I wonder
If it’s the thoughts of greedy minds or
The broken heart that keeps you
From sleep. You are so
Troubled and yet,
You are so
Unbelievably
Perfect.

Really good poem.

I get the impression that the subject appears to be perfect and untroubled but you can see something beyond the surface. The questioning as to whether it is related to "greedy minds" or "the broken heart" suggests that you cannot place what exactly stops the subject from being perfect but you just know they are not.

I understand the first two lines as meaning that you are in a deep peaceful sleep. This sets the tone of the poem well and is a good metaphor.
