To the Core

To the Core

A Poem by Danielle Renee

The closest I've come to crying
in months is when you said goodbye.
It was far too overwhelming
and all I could do was try.
Try to hold it in
instead of break down,
to put on that fake grin
and slip back into gown.
I've shown so much of me
that I've ever shown before
I wish that you could see
how you've broken me to the core.
