Waiting for the Sun

Waiting for the Sun

A Poem by Danielle Renee

We swayed like the homeless
under street lamps
in the frozen air,
waiting for our systems
to clear. You slipped your
hand around my fist
to warm your own.
We were desperate
to feel warm
to feel loved
to feel clean.
But the cold sunk
into our drunken bones
and we shook with the stars
and waited for the sun.
