Hungry

Hungry

A Poem by Danielle Renee

Not a single grain there, even the
trees wither and drag their roots.
The hunger is visible on the shallow
planes of rib cages and cheek bones.
 Scrawny, fragile bodies struggling
to stay alive, the vultures perched
on close by trees, waiting for the
chance to have their meal.

But here, people are plump
and spoiled, big bellies filled
with rich food and liquids and
even larger egos.
Even as they know another would
give a leg to have food, they still
take more than they need or can
handle, eventually dying of clogged arteries.
