I Would Buy You A New Life

I Would Buy You A New Life

A Poem by Lucas Grasha

The wings of an angel, to keep and protect.

Horrid thoughts ensue, in doing so infect.

Distract the happiness away from the mind

to make room for itself, once, a second time.

Fires charged with embers that won’t go out.

Recurring nightmares force all the dreams down.

Angels from faith seem only to forget,

the leaving they do, for which, they’ve no regret.

Hardships won by the ones who deserve not,

through hope and trial, better things, they sought.

But I would trade places, my life to you,

I’d go through all I know I couldn’t do.

I know not what it’s like to cry at night,

or what it truly is to be scared for my life.

I know not the sound of bullets and guns,

or what it is to be surviving to run.

I know not what it’s like to sleep in rags,

or not knowing when next to pack my bags.

I Say I’ll know hardship, oh yes, I will!

But I have not witnessed someone about to be killed.

All I can offer is the warmth of my hand.

I will buy you a new life, only if I can.

For I believe not in the angels of faith,

but I think I am one of the angels here today.

I loved this poem, selfless poetry at it's best. Very truthfully written and a wake up call for us slightly tattered angels here on earth. I think from time to time we all believe our suffering and woes are always worst then the next guys. When in fact, if we truly look at our own through others eyes and hearts, our pain can sometimes be diminished with a few Tylenol, tears and a good nights sleep. When rather than our neighbors severity of pain which may require a lifetime of heartache, Xanax and therapy.

Very good poem, so selfless for a poet! Many of us have a tendency to only look within ourselves and write of our own hurts and pains, but you showed your empathy for others in your work.
