Spies of Furry: Mall Catastrophe - FIN

A Chapter by Daniel Blueflyer

While Aldopha was face pawing, thinking what she should do next, Calvin Coursediver managed to spoke.

“Who’s Daniel? That guy?” asked Calvin to Aldopha and pointed to the beaver furred teen wolf.

“Correct, he’s our classmate at school.” replied Aldopha. “Right, let’s get to the point. Huang, what did you found?”

“I arrested the infamous duo of the gang. I’m sure you know whom I mean…” Huang said with some paw gestures. Calvin and Aldopha nodded in understood. “Right, they told me they are going to blow this mall up after ‘sweep cleaning’ (which means robbing the mall).”

“This is serious.” noted Aldopha, looking contemplated. “What did you got Calvin?”

Calvin nodded, knew it was his turn to present. “I caught three guys who were busy robbing a jewelry store. According to the interrogation I made with them after apprehending them, their ‘sweep cleaning’ operation is about to be accomplish. Just like Huang said, they will set a plastic bomb in the building.”

“I see…” remarked Aldopha. “I bet they won’t activate the bomb yet as I’m sure one of them will alert the others about our escape and starting to release their prisoned pals. Surely they wouldn’t want to blow the building with their captured comrade within it.”

“What did you got, Aldopha?” questioned Calvin.

“Nothing much, I didn’t see anyone when I was patrolling at there. At the same time, I alerted HQ about the situation we are facing. You can say: reinforcement’s on the way. Although no one was there, I do felt someone’s watching me…”

“Stalker.” whispered Daniel over Huang and they both giggled in humor.

“So what should we do now?” asked Huang, regaining his composure.

“Face your demise!”

Huang and the gang heard a fierce voice and turned to a wolf in a jumpsuit with a blaster in his right paw.

“Fang!” growled Huang grimly.

“Surrender, you’re surrounded.” threatened Fang with a cunning smile.

Huang and his friends now realized they were in a sticky situation. Soon, one by one, members of the gang appeared with their blasters, including the duos and the trios whom Calvin and Huang arrested earlier. They were about eight members in total and now, the group was encircled by the members of the Dark Venom Gang. The members slowly advanced step by step, lessening the distance between them and Huang’s.

“Call in the copters. We’re moving out.” commanded Fang to his gang.

“I see… it’s YOU, the leader of the Dark Venom Gang!” spat Huang. “Now that we know, you will be tracked by the agency at every corner on Earth.”

“Um… true… unless I kill you all first.” replied Fang evilly. “You see, we completed the main objective. Now, the real fun begins.”

Fang took out a device with his left hand which seems to be a detonator. He pressed the switch on it.

“There, now the time’s ticking.” Fang then beckoned one of his members. Watson took out a small object and flung it at Huang’s group. It rolled over near the group and suddenly, gas sprayed over them. Huang and his pals coughed and gasped for air. Then, the poor four wolves collapsed over the floor. Meanwhile, the Dark Venom Gang were long gone to the main entryway located not far from the main lobby as soon as Watson chucked that canister and were boarded in the helicopters landed outside near the main entrance. Their leader was the last one to arrive. He climbed in and the two helicopters rose from the ground.

“Goodbye Huang Yi Mao! We shall meet again… probably not!” said Fang and laughed wickedly as the helicopters took altitude and flew off in the deep sky.

Fortunately, not everyone fainted from that gas. Unknown to Fang, Huang got his maw covered with his left sleeve. As the gas dispersed, slowly but steady, he rose from the floor. He had no time to waste, not even wanting to revive his teammates. He knew the gas is just to knock them out and no harm would be done when inhaled. The main priority now is to find the bomb and diffuse it before it explodes. But where would they plant it? It could be anywhere! Then, he remembered an Intel report he received several days back.

The Dark Venom Gang only uses one plastic bomb and plants at the ultimate weakest spot of a building to destroy everything one shot!

But where is it? What’s the weak point of the AC Mall? Those were the questions wondered by Huang.

Closing his eyes, he tried to recall the architecture of the mall. It can’t be inside as that wouldn’t do enough damage with one bomb. There weren’t any main pillars in the building that supports it. Wait a minute, that’s it! Huang’s mind imagined the exterior architecture of the building. He still remembered there is a metal surface which lay over the building supported by tall gigantic rods. If one of the rods falls, it would spell major ultimate destruction of the mall as that layer would destroy the entire building. Huang eyes widen in realization.

Without any more delay, he took out his Spy Assembler. He gone to the Gear Section and pressed a tab which said: Alternate Gears. He tapped on that and he saw a list of equipment and gears. He scrolled down and selected two applications. Just like earlier, the ray of laser was unleashed from the Assembler. This time, it only scanned Huang’s body. When it was done, a bag pack appeared attached at Huang’s back. No, it wasn’t a bag pack. In fact, it’s a jetpack! Then, a bomb diffuser kit appeared when the laser rays focused onto one point in front of the phone. That feature enables agents to keep things by inserting it into that inventory. It’s like a common feature in video games. Huang grabbed that kit from it and attached it on his left thigh where it should be. Then, he deactivated the Assembler and slit it in his pocket and quickly dashed over to the main entryway of the mall. When he reached and went outside, he hopped. At that same moment, the jetpack unleashed a fire blow at the bottom. Huang remembered to keep his tail curled forward when that process happened so the fire blow won’t burn his tail. When he reached a high altitude, the fire blow slowly turned into a small flame.

Huang leaned forward to move forth and activated his HOLO Optical Headset. He patrolled around the mall and kept watch at those rods. The Optical Headset was still searching for anything that is potentially a threat.

“Come on… hurry up!” he whispered in impatience.

His wish came true. The optical headset detected a small dot sticking at a rod. A crosshair appeared at that dot and it zooms in, showing Huang it is a plastic bomb set by the gang. Immediately, he flew over to that bomb. When he was near enough, he leaned back at an upright position to stop his flying pace. Huang saw the time bomb was still counting.

0.30, 0.29, 0.28, 0.27

Huang took out a pair of scissors specially made to cut bomb wires from the kit.

“Scan bomb and show instructions to diffuse.” he said, voice commanding his optical headset.

Huang’s optical headset screen captured an image the bomb and it read the bomb’s system.

0.20, 0.19, 0.18

Then, a window appeared in the screen, showing the ways to diffuse that particular kind of bomb. Huang followed precisely what the instructions given to him.

0.13, 0.12, 0.11, 0.10

One by one, he snipped the wires. Sweat rolled his head, agitated yet calmly diffusing it. Huang knew the whole people of Archive City were counting on him to save the mall. One wrong move and that would be the end of him and the mall and so as his friends.

0.05, 0.04, 0.03, 0.02

Huang cut the last wire available.

0.01

The bomb halted its countdown.

Huang inhaled and exhaled heavily and wiped off his sweat on his face. He grinned, felt relieved it was over and proud he saved the mall from destruction. Just then, behind him, he saw a few wolves with jetpacks flying over to his direction. Huang took it as a glorious sight. Their reinforcements have finally arrived. He flew towards the group with the diffused bomb in his paws.

“Hey Huang!” called out one of the wolves in the group.

“Hi there Catherine!” greeted Huang.

“My gosh, you’re covered in sweat and dirt!” she commented over Huang’s sweaty and stained face. “And what’s that you’re holding?”

Huang gazed the bomb in his paws for a short moment and faced to Catherine again.

“Oh, this here? It’s a bomb.” he said. “No worries, I managed to diffuse it with flying colours.”

“Of course, I can see that.” Catherine giggled then she turned serious again. “And I bet that must be the handy work of the gang. Anyway, Aldopha contacted us that the Dark Venom Gang is at the AC Mall. We are here as backup, Huang.”

“If you have thoughts of capturing them, you are perfectly mistaken; they got us a slip.” replied Huang.

“Pickled buckets, I have expected that. Thanks to Jeremy there…” said Catherine, sounded a little disappointed while eyeing angrily at a darker brown wolf in the battle suit beside her.

“Hey, it’s not my fault that a bird smacked me in my face.” he retorted.

“Aye…” mentioned Huang, rather awkwardly. “However, there’s good news. We found out the identity of that anonymous leader of the Dark Venom Gang.” said Huang. “His name is Fang.”

Catherine mood changed.

“Fang? Fang Clawer? I never knew.” she muttered. “That’s good Intel, thanks to you Huang!”

“No problem.” said Huang with a smile. “By the way, you might want to help assisting my teammates. They were unconscious by the sleeping gas and Daniel, our classmate, is there too. So--” Huang got cut off by Catherine’s words.

“Yeah, I know how to deal with civilians. I will take care of Daniel while the rest of my pals will bring your buddies back to HQ for medical checkup. Meanwhile, you might want to report the whole story to HQ.”

“No problem. Actually, I’m going right now. Many thanks, Catherine!” said Huang and took off to the direction of the CSS Headquarters.

“Yeah, see you!” bid Catherine.

As the wind blew Huang’s face, Huang gazed at the sky. Then he looked at his Spy Assembler for the time.

“It’s already 2.00 PM; this adventure is only an hour and a half. I’m impressed the Dark Venom Gang can rob the whole building within that period.” said Huang to himself. “I wonder… what should I do next at home?”

He inspected his fur and it really looked in a bad shape.

“Obviously a hot shower and a good nap. I’m beat.” he noted and chuckled lightly as he flew with his jetpack to report his findings to HQ.

Author's Note

Daniel Blueflyer
Okay, this story is not exactly a book. It is supposed to be a short story however, it's difficult to keep it 'short'. Since my story is way too long for a story type, I decided to insert my story into a book type since I wish to divide my story to parts which is similar to chapters.

You also might notice I didn't describe the environment enough. That's the major problem I'm facing so if you have any tips on improving that skill, please do not hesitate to share. You're much welcome! Thank you and don't forget to review!
