Poet of Sort

Poet of Sort

A Poem by Dani California

Once fancied myself a poet of sort;

Jumbled words I thought tall, now come up short.

Humbled through reading the masters of verse,

Brilliantly crafted -- each word well rehearsed.

Inspired by true art -- further I read,

Wonderment spilled from the ink their souls bled.

Refined with vigilant, thoughtful precision;

My mind now immersed in musing vision.

O beautiful words -- each carefully placed,

Fervent intention artfully embraced.

Carried with great measure on wings of heart,

Delivered with grace -- literary art.

Isn't it inspiring to read the work of some of the greatest masters of the various literary genres? I know when I do I am indeed humbled by their precise craftsmanship although I believe they all possess one common trait...depth, for we can craft words in such a way that our subjects agree with our verbs and pronouns refer to the correct antecedent, but unless our spirit is alive with whatever emotions make us the individuals that we are, our work becomes nothing but a lonely manuscript left unread by most.

You have a great deal of soul Dani, and a mind that is not only intellectual and creative, but logical and organized. Once again, you have me thinking...

Therefore, POET (and I don't say that lightly)....you must continue what you have been sent to carry out as only you can...

Bravo, my dear friend!

absolutely GORGEOUS. I love it. i must say, you are a brilliant poet. but to read poets from true masters, it is inspiring, humbling. connecting with a piece so perfectly put into words, unbelievable experience. "Such wondrous craft in the ink their souls bled" i love this line. so open, so raw, so intense. a truly gorgeous write.
