Red Dusk

Red Dusk

A Poem by Dani California

Oil paint and fine textured fabric,

strewn in skies of dusk,

veils understanding;

mere sight is relied upon

as faith prays behind the big picture.

An illusion of senses create beliefs,

cloaked in flesh and arrogance;

seeing is believing.

Denial holds its cloth in place

as sanity unfolds within complacency.

Painted are invisible paths to nowhere,

leaving smudged footprints to follow,

only appearing to be solid;

notions of reality rest within pretense,

as truth stands alone on the other side of dusk.

Many people see only what they want to see, for them - reality is merely that. For those who think as well as see, it becomes more. This poem suggests just that point, and, you use words to make the reader think, use metaphors to create more than just a single thought...

This is a beautifully crafted piece of writing, font colour so right for the beautiful picture

'An illusion of senses create beliefs, / cloaked in flesh and arrogance; / seeing is believing; ' < , sadly, how true.

Intriguing weave of inner and outer canvasses.

And I like the depiction of truth as a "hidden" transparency -- "standing alone on the other side of dusk."

Brilliant, the depiction of appearance as a construction of the senses.

Then there's the enigmatic tone of the poem that lingers in the mind, long after dusk.

Beautifully resonant accompanying image also.

Excellent work!

As always way you have expressed truth, showing that desire doesn't always match up with reality. I Love the way you have used metaphors to exquisitely show where pretense takes the soul. Great ~ Jude :-) xoxo

"denial holds its cloth in place

Beautiful lines, as is the entire poem, here, Dani. I had to read and re-read this piece, to grasp its full meaning, which leaves much to the imagination.

The imagination is a terrible thing to waste . . . and through the words of this magnificent poem, you transfix the reader with certain subtleties and a special grace.

Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with us all!

What you have created is larger than life, Dani. Is what we see the truth? I say the writer has wisdom that surpasses years. You have done Stephen King justice.

Painted are invisible paths to nowhere...

This says it all for me...

Extraordinary read!

Girl, I have no idea what the interview was, but I can take a guess based on this. This is fantastic!!! I LOVE the reds, the imagery, and the direct nature of your writing. Red Dusk...WHAT a title!! Superb, my dear. Love this!

This is a wonderful, deep, and thought provoking piece of writing. A perfect photo matching the beauty of the words and a very, very strong end to think about! "as truth stands alone on the other side of dusk."
I wonder, will "Man" ever meet that dawn of truth?!!

This is really inspiring! I can picture and imagine it all... this was very great, Dani. I loved it. The picture fit so well, and how you described the painting...

This was truly one of the best poems I've read all night!

Great job, Dani! You provoke many interesting metaphors and thought processes with this piece, tied together with your beautiful imagery of the red dusk. It's true that, although most of us claim to believe beyond mere sight, "seeing is believing" is still the prevailing mindset people will go to when confronted with the abnormal. In our arrogance, we claim to be open-minded, but scoff at any ideaor phenomenon that defies what we can explain.

The use of font, color, and the picture also give this piece some of its allure; those were excellent editing choices you made. Bravo with this mentally stimulating, eloquent piece. :)
