The Meadow

The Meadow

A Poem by Dani California

Intently, she veers off a path of gloom,

wandering into a meadow, soft hue, full in bloom.

Tossed sporadically, flowers shading tomorrow,

amongst strangling weeds, breeding yesterday’s sorrow;

she picks a flower while wandering through,

its fragrance familiar, a scent fading; you.

A drop of memory falls from her eye, watering soil

with days gone by.

A new path ahead leads to love, new tomorrow;

she sets down the flower, and with it her sorrow;

joyous anticipation accompanies fresh ground;

she glances back at what was, as flowers wither; abound.

The feelings I get when I read your writing remind me so much of me and my years of earlier life...remembering..longing to forget, thoughts of the one that got away..and the one foolishly lost..Sad thoughts to late to alter or change..Nice one sweetie..lol and God bless..Kathie

No matter what color you dip your brush in, the picture that you paint becomes a master piece. This poem is creative and beautiful. I always feel as if i've just woken from a dream after reading your work. Lovely as usual.

This reminds me of my poem, "Funeral of a Feline." I used a cat to bury the past and move on and you used flowers.

This is why writing is such a wonderful outlet. So many objects and scenes can be used to mask as well as also reveal emotions.

I really enjoyed this. It's every person's wish to leave the past and only exist in the present and future. You've communicated the act of doing this in such a graceful, hypnotic manner. Nice write, DC!

Beautiful and so very strong. A hint of sadness and a small amount of regret, but alas, strength found from within . . .

"A new path ahead leads to love, new tomorrow;
she sets down the flower, and with it her sorrow;
joyous anticipation accompanies fresh ground;
she glances back at what was, as flowers wither; abound."

The metaphor used with living and dead flowers is so true. Your words capture this theme, with brevity and clarity. The underlying current is self awareness. And through this, you can smile, nod your head, gracefully, and capture the excitement of what new adventures await you.

Yay, you!!!

Recalling a beautiful memory of a love that brought you happiness...
then shedding a tear over what was...but is no more. Love is such a fleeting thing
and yet so intense that it sets us afloat in an unreal mist of dreams never imagining
that it won't last forever. It's a state of euphoria of the spirit that makes the whole world
beautiful...but when the mist clears and we see the world for how it really is...there is heartache.
A beautiful, spiritually awesome write Dani. The emotion is real.

flowers shading tomorrow,

amongst strangling weeds, breeding yesterday's sorrow

and just a touch of your spectacular talent
infuses a vast of intrigueness in your reader,
such a wonderful taste of words flowing from your pensive heart
leaving readers with a profound closure...to search for answers
in what was...

she glances back at what was, as flowers wither; abound

A very wonderful piece that overflows with beautiful choice of words!
