The Meadow

The Meadow

A Poem by Dani California

Intently, she veers off a path of gloom,

wandering into a meadow, soft hue, full in bloom.

Tossed sporadically, flowers shading tomorrow,

amongst strangling weeds, breeding yesterday’s sorrow;

she picks a flower while wandering through,

its fragrance familiar, a scent fading; you.

A drop of memory falls from her eye, watering soil

with days gone by.

A new path ahead leads to love, new tomorrow;

she sets down the flower, and with it her sorrow;

joyous anticipation accompanies fresh ground;

she glances back at what was, as flowers wither; abound.

The feelings I get when I read your writing remind me so much of me and my years of earlier life...remembering..longing to forget, thoughts of the one that got away..and the one foolishly lost..Sad thoughts to late to alter or change..Nice one sweetie..lol and God bless..Kathie

The tenderness of remembering what was, yet anticipating what will be is carried out beautifully in this verse, Dani. I can't believe I missed this one. So profound is the analogy of the meadow.

'A new path ahead leads to love, new tomorrow;
she sets down the flower, and with it her sorrow;'...

You seem to be reading my mind, these days, dear friend as I am about to embark upon a new life... and hopefully, a new love; thus, I can relate to your marvelous words where nostalgia and hope are perfectly juxtaposed.

Our lives are full of change and memories, lessons learned....lessons in which we gain tremendous insight and acceptance.

Lovely imagery. A great piece to feature anytime, but particularly during this holiday season.

Happy New Year, beautiful lady. Thank you, artist.

This is spectacular. It is some of your best work. In fact, I would put this amongst your top three or four writes. The images capture sight and olfactory. The analogy of flowers rising above strangling weeds and eventually succumbing would seem sad if we didn't know that spring comes anew every year. The only word that I would ask about is the very last. I am unsure how it fits. Would love to have you enlighten me there.

This sounds like real poetry to me, lyrical yet simple, human yet natural.
