Love is not a feelingA Poem by KatiAlternate title: Love is a decision
They got married, and thought they knew love.
Exchanged vows, said I do, and swore to never part. They lived coexsisting, but somehow, it wasn't enough. A few children later, they were growing cold in the heart. She would nag at him, giving him no respite. He responded with irritation, at being treated like dirt. Not either one was doing what was right. They both kept on, not seeming to care how much it hurt. He would never talk to her about their life together, or even anything going on in his own world. Heart strings were being slowly severed, Neither doing anything to find a cure. She started using anger like a dangerous drug, when she was on it, it was like dealing with an addict. The more he reacted, the deeper she dug. When the anger hit, she no longer felt the conscience prick. He looked to alcohol for some relief and rest. What he found was addiction and liver disease. When he was completely wasted was when he felt best, but the next day, he always found that there was no ease. The children were older now, and they fought all the harder. Never bending, never giving, never admiting: "I might be wrong." Always pushing the boundaries and limits of the other. Neither could muster an apology-neither were that strong. I have one thing to say to them: Why did you marry? Woman, look at your husband, Man, look at your wife! Love is not a feeling, floating about like a fairy. Love is a decision, to be stuck with and held all through life. You cannot only love when the feeling hits, when you are in the mood. When she's being a raving monster, and he's drunk as hell, not even that cancels out the moment you said "I do." Love her when she's acting horrid, love him in spite of the alcohol smell. Love is not a feeling. It's a decision..and true love conquers all things. And on that glorious day when they come out of the dark times, they will see that love is not just a thing in make-believe dreams. It can happen in real life...if you just decide.
