Sweet Dreams

Sweet Dreams

A Poem by Daniel Gardner
"

Games the mine can play in sleep...

"

The seemingly peaceful sleep

Is interrupted by a startling beep
Sleep is like death
Only with a heart beat

The shadows of the mind
Have their fun time
Personalities run deep
Infesting your mind

You see yourself full of power
A champion without a belt
You crush your enemies,
Before the bell

You are falling now
Deeper in to Hell
Your a ballerina now
Dancing casting a spell

You know every right move
The body is your tool
A picture you paint, a story you tell
Everyone is happy,
But this is only level two of your metabolic hell

You break your ankle
And your arm as you fell
You don't stop
Down deeper in to sleep
This is no repeat

You smell the cinders
The burning flesh of your ex
Trapped in a fire
That you just set

Evil is your mind now
Dark and full of sadistic rhymes
You feel happy and righteous
You plan to tell your friend to try this

The ground burns away
Engulfing you in flames
Melting your face away
Last floor now
You pray that you wake

A feeling of pleasure now
You see everyone burning in a lake
The world is on fire
You had all you can take

You scream bloody vengeance
While piercing your best friend with a stake
Madness is this dream of yours
But which one of your personalities,
Is about to wake?

A man conflicted when he is a wake, is a man tormented in his sleep....Once again something I wanted to get out. Take it how you want it has many meanings. Rate and comment if you want.

This is actually my favorite poem of yours. I was thinking about doing a poem like this but you beat me to it! I don't mind though because i adore this. You described the distortion and unpredictability of dreams so well. I love everything about this, the irregular rhymes, the irregular structure, the irregular flow - all reflecting dreams. And some of the imagery here is so powerful, like the stanza about your ex. The ending is amazing too. A really well done. Honestly, this is awesome !!!

Wow, yes, I agree and I like this piece a lot Daniel:) It holds the intensity right through from beginning to end and offers an array of emotion. There is the saying that each time we sleep, we die a little death, I wonder if we don't do that whilst awake too? Dreaming whilst awake lol xx

This is amazing. Such a powerful poem. There are a few spelling errors, for example:
"You brake you ankle"
should be:
"You break you ankle"
There are a few more, but I bet you can find them. Other than that, this was really good. I love the rhyme scheme. Great job! :D
