Chapter 1: Run, Fall, Bam!

Chapter 1: Run, Fall, Bam!

A Chapter by DandiRandi

'Don't stop running.'  I reapeated in my mind with a desperate sense of persuasion. 'Keep going.'  I continued on my ruthless sprint with a powerful force. For the slightest moment, I felt un-touchable. Until, of course, I felt the tap of bloodthirsty fingers on my shoulder. It had been just a slight brush, but it had been there. I sped up faster than I ever thought possible, pushing my limits farther than before. My stomach had an ache in the side, and my throat felt tight. Ahead I saw a clearing. 'What?'  Not a clearing. It was a cliff! But, there was another wooded area right across the pit between them. I guess there would only be one way. Bracing myself for the rush I was about to experience made the butterflies in my stomach multiply by billions. Quickly making my way closer to the edge, I tried to give myself a confidence boost, which really didn't help much. As I reached the clearing I hesitated very slightly, then pushed off of a tree trunk with my leg. I vaulted outward, toward the clearing on the opposite side of the pit, only to find that I would make it nowhere near there.

I was falling at an incredible speed, rushing downward as the air whistled past my ears. Fear began to flood quickly into my body as I realized I needed to stop falling. I reached out to grab something, anything at all. I had to stop myself or I was going to be nothing but a splatter on the solid ground below. I contiued to shove my arms outward toward everything my body flew past. Expcept, I couldn't really grasp anything. It was all going by too fast and it seemed slippery, almost as if wet. There were vines slithering all the way up and down the jagged stone and I knew they were my only hope. I continued to reached out, pulling all the vines. All I was doing was slowing my speed, which would be helpful in any normal circumstances of falling, but this was just a bottomless pit. Literally, I couldn't see anything but darkness rising toward me, enveloping me. I still couldn't manage to grab onto anything to stop myself and my heart was beating faster than it should ever have to beat. Then, I felt the impact.

The air flew out of my lungs instantly and my heart jumped into my throat. Every bone in my body felt like it was either broken or not there at all. I saw nothing but little black and grey dots dancing across my vision, blurring out the rest of the world. My head was pounding, and my chest was attempting to heave. My throat was just completely blocked and I was choking on nothing. Dying. That's what I was doing. I was dying. The ache in my stomach was terrible, and I just laid there whimpering pitifully. Then I felt the damp heat on the back of my head, the back which had slammed into the rock solid ground. I could feel the liquid spreading out beyond the very back of my head, and it trickled down my throat as well. A cool line of wetness ran down my cheek, a tear. It was a tear that signified the pain I couldn't bear for much longer. The pain I was suffering through, and the horrifying pain that walked me toward my death. I gave up.

* * * *

My body jolted forward, pulling away from the comfort of my bed. I rubbed my eyes as they adjusted to the light of the morning, while at the same time wiping away the warm tears that filled them. Swinging my legs over the side of my bed, I recalled the nightmare I'd just awakened from. Thinking of it sent shivers down my spine. I opened my closet door, and pulled out an oversized, white t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and my beaten up Converse hightops. It took me no longer than five minutes to get myself dressed for the day, and then I quickly shoveled a bowl of oatmeal into my mouth. I felt odd that morning, though. Something seemed to be different, and I couldnt shake that nightmare from my mind. However, Drew arrived with his normal morning call, no different.

"Get out here, Blondie!"

This, as usual, was followed by a toothy, twinkley eyed smile as I came out the front door and started toward his yellow 1979 Porsche 911 SC. Drew pushed the door open for me, and I took my seat in the passenger position.

"Well, how do you do?" Drew asked as I buckled in.

"Fine. I'm just tired." Was my response.

"You don't honestly expect me to believe that, do you?"

"No. I had another bad dream. It's really nothing, Drew."

"Mhmmm." Drew said, grinning. "Donut?"
