Toxic Love

Toxic Love

A Poem by Tasha
"

School time 8th grade word of the day: toxic.

"
It started with you holding my hand,
Then kissing and touching
Then the real you came out,
The yelling, the screaming
Whatever happened  to love?
Whatever happened  to forever and always?
Toxic, toxic is what you are,
Toxic poison is what you caused in this relationship
Deathly stares,
Deathly threats,
Its time to leave
And find a new medicine
One that doesn't stab at my heart

Toxic is a great word for it. If the relationship you are in doesn't make you feel better about yourself and make you a better person because of it, causing instead, the upset and pain of feeling worse, it is definitely time to move on. Many will relate to this.
Well said!

Love should never hurt, in either direction. Life is too short for there to be the pain of "Toxic" relationships. Foster Love and give it freely until proven that the person cannot be trusted with such a precious gift!

It really sucks when you feel deceived by your partner who you'd thought to be in love with you. You question this change that hit his bitter heart like: "What the hell just happened?" You could be afraid of asking him about his conscience. The worst thing is that you're stuck in this mud and toxic forever. Be wise to choose your angel because he might be the devil within.

Relatable and true. How a relationship can be so innocent at first and yet turn into a relationship that only yields pain. I love the lines "It's time to leave/And find a new medicine", and it questions whether or not the toxic relationship was meant to be medicine in the first place--medicine to cure a previous wound. However, the medicine turned sour and the persona realized she had to let it go. Great job. (:

This happens far too often. These are sad times we live in when a person's personality is added to the list of things that are commonly faked.
I like how the first and second lines are offset by the second and third, it makes for a pleasingly jarring bit of flow, which lends itself rather neatly to the sense of betrayal found in the rest of the poem. What I also found clever was the second-to-last line, whcih (to me, at least) implies the speaker needs an emotional bond/lover in order to help them stand strong after some kind of pain or trauma.
Good poetry.

A really expressive poem about how some relationships can harm us. Very interesting writing, I loved it.
