The Library

The Library

A Poem by Tasha
"

Why can't everyone be accepted?

"
He walks down the hall in shame,
with his head held down
cursing himself
for living in such a small town
wishing for the name calling
and harassment to cease
because its killing him inside
He reaches the library
and eats his lunch in silence
while becoming lost in a book..
his only escape;
The bell rings and its time
to go back to class:
back to the name calling,
back to the taunting,
back to the hell...
during school hours
The class project involves partners,
the entire class shuns him out
just because of his mom's preference,
he runs to the library and bawls his eyes out..
Finally the day is over
and he walks to his car to find
its been trashed,
he goes back into the library
and pulls out a piece of paper
and his favorite book
and he begins writing..
writing this letter and wishing
he could just be normal..
He puts the book
back in its place when a librarian
says to him
"I know how you feel."
she pulls the letter out of the
book and rip it apart
he finally felt accepted
when the whole world
turned their back on him

Yeah, it does suck when you feel that you're the only bookworm around. It's annoying when you can't belong with any group is that all you have are books. In a sense, those book nerds can be annoying to be around because all his/her world is just books.

When the 80 year old librarian is your only company, it's like... uh... there's a personal problem here. Sometimes, it takes some courage. Anyway, I know the feeling of being shoved aside for sometime in my childhood.

Anyway, great write. :)

I feel so sorry for anyone who has to endure anything like that. Maybe its just my school..but i certainly hope not . But there is nothing like that, that goes on. Im starting the 12 grade and for the life of me i have never seen anyone bullied openly in class or the hallways or the cafeteria, in my grade at least and theres some 200 of us. Even if people dont like each other there is little name calling and rarely brawls and no one is made fun of inside or outside the classroom. I guess my grade is very accepting and fortunate then, and i wish other schools had the same thing. Shame that its not like that.

I love how books are just such an escape from this ugly world, and you convey that excellently :)

Powerful! The library was my retreat too, when I felt all alone. Great poem, good message!

this is a stunning ending to this poem. Sadly this story happens every day at some school. It happened when I was in school. People of all ages can be cruel but it is in moments when we reach out to someone in need that reflects the beautiful part of being human.

This is fantastic! Very saddening, and deep. You weave a tale full of emotion, yet, it explains so well the solice we find both in books, and in writing. Wonderful descriptions...great job! = ]

cause im sure that letter could have been his last so
step in from time to time and help someone u never know
who life u may save i lovethis write ... plus my owe opinion is that kids aren't as tough as we use to be cause this bullying this is nonsense the world is must cruler then highschool plus he's being punished for his mom's choices in life that sucks!!!
aslo kids have always been cruel!!! parents need to be that back bone and get them ready for the real world cause high schools just a stepping stone compared to the real word
