If I Were To Die In Seven Days...

If I Were To Die In Seven Days...

A Poem by Tasha

"
If I were to die in seven days
would you be by my side?
would you help me get over the fact
that this movie's coming to an end?
could you be my support system,
or would you just sit there...
and let the last week of my life come and go

If I were to die in seven days
could we put aside our differences...
could you be there for me... just this once
because there is no second chance

If I were to die in seven days
would you show me the best week of my life,
because nothing's really been that exciting

If I were to die in seven days
would you finally express your love to me
or would you still keep it a secret?

If I were to die in seven days,
it wouldn't matter what anybody else thought
because we would have each other until the end

Author's Note

 Tasha
In my bible class we are talking about Jesus' death and how he only had one more week to live. This is also for the Prompts and Reviews Week 2, and that was your greatest fear and my greatest fear is someone liking you but they can't tell you. I know it seems kind of choppy at places, but I did my best. Thanks for reviews :)

Beautiful sentiment, and heartfelt subject, Ta'shandra. I believe you could add to the poem's impact by making the whole a series of tercets. Simply done, without a great deal of editing:

If I were to die in seven days,
would you help me get over the fact
that this movie's coming to an end?

Could you be my support system,
or would you just sit there...
and let the last week of my life come and go?

If I were to die in seven days
could you be there for me... just this once
because there is no second chance?

...and continue with the rest of your fine write. Just a suggestion...try reading it aloud both ways, and see if it adds impact to your ears.

Well done, in any event.

With seven days to live and you knew it. All rules and regulation would be gone. I like the questions in the poem. 7 days in a short time. You would need to enjoy every second of life. A outstanding poem.

Wow. That was very thought-provoking. How do you feel when you know that you wouldn't live to the eighth day. And how would you like others to be around you? It makes me think that people should not hold back their love and care because these feelings are strongly brought back in situations like the one you talked about. But then, most of the times, its too late..

Anyway, it was a great write. A pleasure to read. Keep it up! :)

This is a really great write and I love how you made it both for the prompt and out of a personal experience in Bible Study. I agree with Joel about making the first stanza into 2 tercets to go along with the rest of the poem. Other than that, the poem had a great flow to it.. beautifully written.

When I saw your Author's Note, I liked how you connected it with religion a bit. I also liked how you only started the first line in each stanza with a capital letter.

great idea..knowing that death is upon us and wanting to breath life with someone special..I expect if you had seven days..you wouldn't hesitate to tell them how you feel...saying that death is relative if you believe that is in not the end of living but merely the beginning of a glorious new beginning.
