Unbroken Knots(POTC Fanfic: Chapter OneA Story by Hana-chanUpon the dawn of a new age of piracy, Isabelle O'Malley is running out of time. She is given the choice to join the Bretheren Court and resign under the new laws of piracy, or remain an untamed queen of her own waters.Fate became clear that one night for Grace O'Malley.
Galleys lay towed and pressganged as crewmen glared hatefully at the foreign invaders. Ships of every kind decked in the harbor, colors hoisted and flapping in the cold night wind. Upon each of them, skulls left their mark. The thump of boots on gravel leading up to the castle trembled the citizens, forced out of their homes, as they cowered and shivered at the points of muskets. The white washed houses glowed with an eerie presence and they reflected the water. Several bulky crewmen approached the door, before looking to the nine captains behind them. With a single nod, they fell to the invading force. They rushed up the stairs, the captians quick to follow, until they found the room. They burst through, and pointed their guns at the Queen.
Needless to say, Grace was amused by the sudden change in company.
Despite her fame and power, Barbossa and the others took note of her declining age and health. Her steel grey hair was tied up in a loose bun, and wrinkles lined her face in varying lengths. Her green cloak of Irish wool was worn and ragged. Her boots were beginning to grow holes. But with a sharp glance from strong green eyes, there was an unsaid message.
Do not tempt me.
What intrigued the court most now was the presence with Grace. A small child. Sitting in her lap, she looked hardly older than seven. Slumping in her lap, she toyed with the pewter pedant on a silver chain that hung from Grace's neck. With the obvious air of ignorance, the child barely glanced at the Court, before returning to fiddle with the pendant. Grace stroked her head with apparent fondness, before returning her attention the Court.
"And to what pleasure do I own such unseemly company, I wonder?"
Barbossa sniffed at her sarcasm.
"As ye may be aware of, yer time as a member of the Court has been, oh say, diminished." A harsh round a laughter circled from the crewmembers. Grace however continued stroking the child's hair, smiling.
"Is it now? Because if my memory proves me right, my time has only jsut begun," she spoke in barely a whisper, fingering the pendant momentarily. Barbossa's eyes lingered hungrily upon it, widening her smirk.
"My way of life, of power, of culture; it cannot be so easily removed with a mere show of force," she gestured out the window to the shaking hostages below.
"You sound so eager to abandon them," spoke Mistress Ching, her painted mouth trembling with disapointment.
"You sound as though they have no understanding of the situation,"
"Miss O'Malley let it be known," intruded Barbossa, "While you may have the pendant keeping things together on Clare Island, remember that the Bretheren Court has Davy Jones ready to change that,"
A shadow flickered for a moment across Grace's face. The child had stopped playing and now looked morbidly at the Court, eyes piercing to the back at a young teen. He frowned before looking away, beads clicking in his hair.
"And Davy Jones," said Grace solemnly, "Is aware of the promises I keep."
Bewildered but angry, the Court stormed away with the crew following until the youngest one was left. He stared oddly at the little girl before noticing Grace's stare upon them.
"And you, Jack Sparrow?"
Jack flinched at the harsh tone before leaving quickly, as if he realized suddenly he shouldn't be there. Sighs of relief echoed outside as the weapons were lowered from the hostages faces, and the ships began to sail away. Grace held the child close.
"There will be a strong storm coming my Isabelle. And we must be ready for it."
