Unbeautiful

Unbeautiful

A Poem by Lydia Jamison
"

We are all beautiful in our unbeautiful ways

"
We are all beautiful
In our unbeautiful ways.
No one can change us,
Or control us.

We trace each other's scars,
Finding secrets
Beneath each other's skin.
We don't need to feel shy.

Hold on to yourself.
Being just who you are
Is the thing you're best at.
And I won't let anyone
Take it away.

Unbeautiful is how they see me.
How they see us all.
They happen to think
That they are superior.
I wonder who will tell them
That they're wrong.

Today,
We are unbeautiful.
Tomorrow,
We'll be wonderful.

We'll walk on top of mountains,
And fly up in the clouds.
And when we look down
To all the ones who doubted us,
We can toss our heads and laugh.

We are all beautiful
In our unbeautiful ways.
We don't need cruel words.
All we need
Is to love ourselves.
