Broken Mirror

Broken Mirror

A Poem by Lydia Jamison

In the dead of night,
I lay awake,
Waiting to hear the sound of a broken mirror.

The shatter of glass,
A silent scream,
Is like music to my ears.

And inside this mirror,
Through shards of glass,
I see my own reflection.

The upset eyes,
The crystal tears,
Caused by such rejections.

You cannot fix
A broken mirror.
It's a wound that will not mend.

And though I sew
My seems up tight,
The hurt will never end.

In the dead of night,
I lay awake,
Waiting to hear the sound of a broken mirror.

The shatter of glass,
A silent scream,
Is like music to my ears.

But finally when
The sunlight comes
My life will again be bright.

You do not need
To rescue me,
I know I'll be alright.
