A Fly on Mona Lisa's Nose

A Fly on Mona Lisa's Nose

A Poem by Dan Woolley
"

Just a Thought................

"

A Fly on Mona Lisa’s Nose

Is my life a masterpiece
Like a mosaic scattered through time
If it were a masterpiece
Would that mean I was perfect
Would it be my fate to be of such magnitude
Surely, you would say you knew the masterpiece
How, would you know of my inner beauty
Could my inner beauty be painted, or arouse a smile, at least
That would be all that I asked of you
Would my purpose be to entertain, or would it be, to be criticised
Would you look at me in the same way as you would look at Mona Lisa
What if Da Vinci painted a fly on Mona Lisa’s nose
Would you say that the fly was fate, as now your perspective changes
Is a fly that important
What if it was your masterpiece, you would be annoyed, I guess
If my life was painted could I change its appearance

I ask this in pure naivety, as my philosophical purpose is to ask why
What is your purpose, you don’t believe it’s mapped out, do you.
For if it were why do you crave success as if it is an achievement
And if you fail would you take that as a fly on your nose. If you were painting then surely you could change the grotesque fly into a handsome butterfly
Maybe you like your fly and would paint more, just to spite your face, of course
Even if Da Vinci himself painted you, why would you be happy?

Mona Lisa has never grabbed me and I'd be far more fascinated in how the fly could sit there quite happily on a vertical canvass...also flys are very quick and not grotesque in any way.

This piece certainly left me thinking. I cannot answer most of the questions either, however, I enjoy the ponder that this write generates.

I liked how everything as a question. It was questioning every aspect of his life trying to find some self recollection. Good Write!

I dig the thoughts of this piece and the way you conveyed them so powerfully as if you should be standing on the street corner speaking to the masses that gather there to listen to truth telling. The lost art of soapbox speaking. I am a spoken word poet so I love pieces that get in your face and ask you to revisit your own self and thoughts. To take a moment and look at the world that crowds you.

Well Done!!!!!
