Bitter PillsA Poem by Dan Cowan
Just another bitter pill on my tongue
Grimace and glug Swallow it down and recall what I've sung With burning lungs God, I am growing weary of pill and pill But I'll suck it up For I know my grave will not be filled 'Fore I wade in muck 'You are my strength when I am weak You are the treasure that I seek You are my all in all' Lord, carry me when my path grows steep when the thorns are greedy for the flesh of my feet 'You are my all in all' The Fire in my soul, the spine of my gall I know that everything can only get worse The deepening gloom Soon I'll be in chains, the links are cursed Inhaling fumes And beaten for a Name that I've resolved to love A glory divine You'll be the heart that pumps my blood Endurance to strive So let the rain fall from skies above Weeping for the lies that we sell and love You'll be the hands that harden my bones That lift me up and welcome me home Amidst the carnage that I hear and see when I taste the pain that trails my belief with grace I will stand and pay my fee For 'You are my strength when I am weak You are the treasure that I seek You are my all in all' The Endurance in my name The Fire in my soul The Patience of my way The only name I hold © 2018 Dan CowanReviews
