That Long Black Train

That Long Black Train

A Poem by Damon

Mama called for me
She was riding on that long black train.
She was calling my name--
I recognized her voice from memory.
She’s been gone for years.
I loved her then;
I love her still,
And I always will.
Yes, I will even when I join her on that long black train.

This poem was a runner up in February 2008 for Arkansas Poets Rountable contest. I think it is the first time in my life that I have placed in any contest.
