Red Eyes

Red Eyes

A Poem by Black Ocean
"

Wrote this when i realised i was getting high more than living. Sleeping though days, aimlessly drifting through life.

"
You can see the emotions in ones eyes
Pain, Joy
Pride, Disappointment
From the highest extremes to the lowest of depths traversed in a blink

Bloodshot sights
Dry and sore, filled with the sands of time
with dark sandbags weighing them down
They tell a story of visible pain
With every effort to keep my eyes open
To see the world positively
Yet have colours drained by the kaleidoscope i look through

It may not be what you like
To see my scopes be blinded momentarily by substances
To paint my landscapes blood red
With mental jabs and pokes
That glorify my battle against life

My eyes are the witnesses and victims to this war
They are the grounds on which my battles take place
They are the instruments to both my victories and defeats
Every moment captured through my lens is a victory
Every missed opportunity to see the world as a beautiful place is a loss

And with a couple of blinks
A brown oasis, surrounded by soft cloud-like terrains
Flows over the lava-like plains that once was
To reset the clock for my daily struggles
Cloaking my pains, like pulling a rug over a mess
To trick people into thinking I'm fine

As my iris soaks up the sun
Forming a mirrored layer over my eyes
Reflecting a mirage for the masses
Deflecting any chance of opening up
So look closely into ones eyes
For they paint a picture of life more than words ever will.
