A Poem by Damien Davison
"

Spin after spin, my money rises and falls...

"
I look around as I enter.
There are but a few regulars sitting at the bar, the tables empty.

I ask the bartender for a draft.

I turn around and head towards the machines.
My plan is to put in what was left of the twenty I used for the beer.

That's always the plan.

Cherry Rain is the name of the game.
I stick in a five sheet.

Five turns in to ten, the ten burns from excitement.
I should just keep the ten I have left, but she seems like she's playing well.

Spin after spin, my money rises and falls.
The outcome, disappointment.

I planned to spend that anyway, not a big deal.
I would leave, though the machine is playing well.
One more twenty, bet raised.

As my twenty doubles, I max the bet.
This is it.

I feel the energy, I feel the win.
My heart is racing in anticipation.

Spin after spin, loss after loss, twenty after twenty.
She tricked me yet again.

I really fucked up.
Two weeks before Christmas, no presents.
My last two hundred dollars...
