Les Vampires des Catacombes

Les Vampires des Catacombes

A Poem by Damien Thibodeaux
"

English form sonnet. I think this is the last one I’ll write. They are hard and my mind’s rhythm works differently.

"

Les Vampires des Catacombes

Our home runs deep beneath Parisian streets

Beg Mademoiselle, come out of the rain

As your blood still flows and your heart still beats

At your end I promise there’ll be no pain

We go underground because daylight burns

And normally feed on the cataphiles

Who come to rave, but get lost in the turns

They hide in passageways that run for miles

I knew when I read the lust in your thoughts

Tonight when I found you in the café

Thirst in our souls and murder in our hearts

A seasoned young girl from the cabaret

Don’t be afraid and never say never

The night is our time, we’ll live forever

I love this! Fresh unique thinking for a Halloween poem! Sophisticated rhymes . . . this reads with easy rhythm & to hell with iambic pentameter! Love the dance of loving & terrorizing (((HUGS)))

Is this inspired The Vampire Chronicles? It sounds like the Vampire Armand and his coterie of performers. All in all, I enjoyed this poem very much.

Damn fine job, my friend! ;)

I love the Vampires of Anne Rice's novels. I loved Vampires until Twilight came out... :(
Just finished writing sonnets with my class - and they would agree that sonnets are hard! This one deserves an A+, Damien - great rhyme and rhythm, and you stayed true to your style with the vampire topic. Love it!

Oh, Vampires. There's such romance in their damnation.
I recently watched a documentary about the Catacombs of Paris, so the imagery here was all very, very familiar. It's a fascinating topic, and perfect for those who enjoy writing of darkness and the macabre.
I myself enjoy both reading and creating within these themes, so I look forward to discovering more of your work. Great piece.

Wonderful job with this one.
It's a bit dark but it's very alluring which fits the vampire myth so well.
Enjoyed it.

You're welcome!
Perfectly dark. I love your vampire tale in this poem. The dark blood thirsty seduction always wins in the end. Who can resist such a lure?

You're welcome. I do really like it.
Well, I do hope you reconsider, because although you say this is difficult for you, the end result is quite striking. I take this over the teen vampire drivel out there any day of the week. Send this to Caradoc if you have not already, and read his vampire stuff if you have not. I think he would enjoy and vice versa.
