The Facility

The Facility

A Chapter by Damac
"

A flashback to how this all started

"
Rick walked solemnly through the massive mechanized doors of the facility, ready to continue his job as chief scientist in the research lab, codenamed "The Facility."
The underground hallways were dimly lit, with no natural light. The place had a gloomy feel about it, other scientist walked past Rick, few even offering an acknowledging head nod, let alone a hello. They all knew what RIck was, and the sick twisted experiments he worked on.
For the past two years Rick and his research teams had been working on one of the most incredible experiments they had ever embarked on, re-anmating the dead. The purpose was simple, a soldier in the battlefield is shot down. A fellow soldier runs up, injects him with a needle, and his buddy stands back up and continues the fight, all wounds healed, essentially creating an immortal army. And that was only the military project, the consumer version would also soon be released. The only thing that kept Rick going through the horrible experiments was the idea that one day, a child tragically killed in an accident of some sort, cold be brought back to life and into its parents arms.
Rick entered his Lab where many of his employees were already hard at work.
"Any news to report today Gerald?" Rick said, speaking to his assistant while reading a clipboard.
"Actually yes sir."
"Really, what is it?"
"Well, as you know, yesterday we injected the two new viruses into our four new test subjects."
"Yes, yes."
"Well virus 647 had no effect, on the living subject nor the cadaver, but virus 648..."
"Yes Gerald."
"It's hard to explain. You should probably come see for yourself."
Gerald led Rick to a small viewing room, inside was a man, bleeding from the mouth and eyes.
"He's unresponsive to our commands and his health is deteriorating. He is also incredibly aggressive, bit one of the researchers this morning."
"Bit?"
"Yeah, we went into to try and calm him down, beat the s**t out of three of us and bit the fourth."
Rick sighed, "Label 648 another failure, kill the test subject."
"Kill him?"
"Yes" Rick said "Kill him."
"But he's a living person, with a family... We could make a cure."
"We don't have time to research a cure." Rick opened a drawer revealing a small handgun, "I guess I have to do this myself."
Rick entered the room and immediatley fired three shots into the mans chest, the man keeled over and fell.
"Now lets get back to work!" He yelled.
About an hour later...
Rick sat in his office, doing some paperwork, running some simulations on his computer, when suddenly, Gerald burst into his office.
"Sir, you are going to want to see this."
"If it's another failed experiment Gerald..."
"It's not."
The two arrived back at the viewing area. Upon approaching the window Rick saw, to his bewilderment, the man he'd killed an hour earlier, now walking slowly around the room, his skin pale and his blood dried.
"Where did you say that man who got bit was?"
"In the infirmary why?"
"Because, we have created a virus that drives humans insane, and then resurrects them when killed. If we are lucky he's the only one who's contaminated. I want him killed immediatley."
"But..."
"No buts, do it. Have you heard word from the infirmary since this morning?"
"No..."
Rick grabbed the pistol off the desk and walked back inside the viewing room, he aimed at the man and fired three more times into his chest. But the man continued to stand and move towards Rick. Thinking fast he aimed for the head and fired. The mans head exploded, and he fell to the ground dead.
Suddenly Rick felt a since of dread was over him, the viewing room door slid shut and he could hears all the lightbulbs outside bursting as the world outside plunged into darkness and where Gerald once stood in the window was now nothing.. The light in the room broke and began to flicker, wildly and un-predictably.
Rick moved towards the window, "Gerald?" He called out, but got no answer. As he approached the glass, something smashed up against it. Gerald, his face bloody and grinning, looked back at him. Ricks heart began to race.
"Gerald help me, get me out of here!" Rick began to hear footsteps running along the metal floorings of the level above him and the screams of men and women, fleeing from an unknown terror. Gerald just looked back at him.
"This is what happens when you play god! Gerald shouted, in a warped and twisted voice.

The facility. . There is an excessive use of 'the facility' in the 1st paragraph which i think is improper. Next, i wonder, why can't the military version be used on the civilians? Is there a difference in composition? The writer probably would have put more insight on this project by Rick.
The idea of the chapter is great but more detail should be paid attention to.
