Tongue And TeethA Poem by The Winter GreyTo the connections we make... or so we lead ourselves to believe. You speak to me in soul. I put my lips to burning coals. Your body smolders. I wake up when my bed gets colder.
Did you burn it all down? All the evils in this ruined town? My solace, your cage. Mercy on me and you fall into rage.
You want so much more than I can give.
With hands like alibis. We skirt around the outside. With tongue and teeth. A mess but somehow so complete.
I speak to you in soul. You leave me feeling less than whole. Far enough to fake I'm strong. Close enough to know something's wrong.
Calm the storm inside. Desperate fingers locked around mine. Shards of blind sentiment. And I was sure I'd seen the end of it.
I want so much more than just to live.
With hands like alibis. We keep secrets with our eyes. With tongue and teeth. Shame on me, I'm so naive.
You asked for space and I gave you the world. You asked for time and I gave you the rest of my life.
With hands like alibis. We skirt around the outside. Wordlessly. Your heart is mine, with tongue and teeth. © 2012 The Winter GreyAuthor's Note
