A World of Words

A World of Words

A Poem by Daltin Bydeed

A World of Words

I opened the lock to the chest of knowledge.

And as I delved deep into the mysteries hidden within,

Each passing moment became a new experience,

Every word was dipped in sugar and glistened as honey,

Yet at times it tasted as bitter as rotten apples.

At times it screamed at me and at times it was as soft as the pattering rain.

The words spoke to me a million tales,

Wove tales of chivalry and tales of honesty,

Tales of sorrow and tales full of joy,

Tales of triumph and tales of great loss.

And as I perused each tale my heart was changed,

Changed to love that which I had discovered.

Changed to love the stories within a book.

A very arousing and inspirational piece. An ode to the book and it's stories. The ending was a sweet surprise for me and I had to read the poem twice. Lovely work.

...the last lines speak for the poem's entirety, message to not necessarily the readers, but the self:
being true to (the self).
The book...
is still being written.
This is what poetry is all about.
Making a reader not only think, but walk away with some inspirational insight
and wonder of the poet, marveling through (his) words.

Daltin!! So glad to finally see you posting. What a nice poem this is. Words do color a canvas to a world all their own, do they not? I like how you approached this. Nice work!
