Firefly

Firefly

A Poem by Daltin Bydeed

Stare out vacantly,
To the places with nothing in between.
There is no thought,
No mulling.
There is only grasping despair

All is not yet dark.
All is not yet fallen.
Light yet remains.

This bleeding sore,
Claws away at the heart.
The ground gives way,
A pit of utter black
Where all is devoured.

But yet a glow flickers,
This soft warmth,
Amid a dark ocean.

Within the core,
A wounded, bleeding soul.
All attempts of aid,
Are nothing,
Temporary relief.

Still, hope flits,
Providing a thread,
Something to hold on to.

There is no light,
There is no hope.
Life is vain, and pointless;
A weary march,
To the howling void.

Whispers of courage,
And strength,
Echo in the hollow.

Bottled,
Within this overwhelming null,
A firefly is trapped,
Keeping its captive alive.
