Signs You Need to Change Your Job

Signs You Need to Change Your Job

A Story by Dalia Derrick

Deciding to look for a new job isn’t easy, especially if you’ve been with a company for a while. However, sometimes change is inevitable " and there are some signs which indicate that you are ready for a new job. Check out this article to find out what these signs are.

People often don’t like change, they fear it. Your current job may not be as rewarding as it was a couple of years ago, but it’s comfortable. It provides you with an income that allows you to pay your bills. You’ve learnt everything you can and you’re no longer stressed about making mistakes. You’ve befriended your co-workers and feel like you don’t have the energy to start fresh somewhere new.

These attitudes are valid, but prevent you from evolving. When you get too comfortable you are no longer growing, developing your skills and learning new things. You start to feel bored and empty. You begin to dread getting out of bed every morning and going to work. All these are signs that something is wrong. You need a new challenge to motivate and excite you. You need a new job.

However, while some people clearly understand when it’s time to leave a job, for others it isn’t so clear. We’ve gathered a few signs that you are no longer satisfied with your current position, below.

You feel exhausted all the time

Your job is too stressful. Your personal life is a mess and your social life is almost non-existent. You have too many responsibilities, work long hours and barely have the energy to make it home in the evening. The stress is also starting to have a negative effect on your health.

You are bored with your work

You feel like you’ve learnt everything you can in your current position. You’re no longer motivated and you lack passion. You have no more room to grow or advance at your current job.

You’re constantly complaining

You drive your family and friends crazy by constantly complaining about your job. This type of behavior could have a negative impact on your personal relationships. If you're grumpy and unhappy all the time, make a change.

The salary no longer motivates you

People often stick with a job that doesn’t truly satisfy them because of the money. A steady job provides a fixed income that helps you pay your bills and cover your living expenses. When not even the pay can compensate for the emptiness you feel inside, it’s time to look for something else.

You have a bad attitude

You’re always late. You take frequent coffee breaks and long lunches. You don’t like your co-workers anymore and you often get into arguments with them.  Your work performance is suffering. You find yourself constantly looking at the clock and calculating how much time you still have before heading home. If you find yourself in the statements above, start looking for something else as soon as possible.

Only by stepping out of your comfort zone you will be able to make a change. Maybe a new career is the way to go. Take some career aptitude tests to find out what would suit you. Find a job that will make you happy again. Keep in mind that we spend approximately 11 years of our lives working. Enjoying what we do makes all the difference.
