SECOND CLASS CITIZEN

Obama maybe president but prejudice is very much alive. For the second time in my life I’ve become reminded that I’m not only female but a minority female. The other day after being involved in a minor fender bender when the police arrived at the scene the officers refused to acknowledge me.
A couple days later, to my surprise, when I picked up the accident report it was noted that I’d made a statement, I went to the precinct a total of three times trying to change it, each time feeling vulnerable -- feeling frightened. I was talked down to and then dismissed.

The last attempt I actually saw the officer whom wrote the report, he looked me in my face and said “you said that” referring to what he’d written. I simply left amazed by his ability to lie with a straight face, frustrated and angry to the point of a need for necessary action.

Today, I will file a formal complaint to go to the Police Review Board at another precinct. I’m apprehensive but I have to it, I’ve been told they don’t put them through sometimes so I was told to make sure I hear from the Police Review Board.

I’ve only got one voice I will let it be heard.
