Where

Where

A Poem by Dak
"

remember when you get to leave. can't wait

"

When I was a child, this distinct sensation of joy consumed me, even if my occupation for the day included nothing but staring at the clouds.

I’m seventeen, a junior in high school, and I wonder where my joy has gone. Perhaps it fled along with my friends years ago. I’m not sure, but since it left I’ve truly been alone.

Months pass

“Why don’t you talk more? You really need to engage with people” I hear muffled by the sound of music playing in my headphones.

Why can’t they leave me alone? They had no problem with it before, when I needed them.

It’s hard to feel alive when you’ve witnessed all there is to offer for miles… I need to leave. It’s so dull living in a cave.

Hang in there joy, I’ll find you soon.

We’ll be together again.

Somehow.

The last three lines says it all....and when you do find joy look up to see what shapes you can find in the clouds and remind yourself that joy is everywhere if you look hard enough.

apreciate the review(:
I know this so well, it's my youth a very long time ago but the same nevertheless, you expressed the feelings of isolation so very well, excellent writing, more philosophical than poetic I think but that's just how I see it, could also make the beginnings of a good story, well done :)

thank you, i appreciate it
There are times in life when loneliness turns to self isolation. We look inside ourselves and our interests to fill the void left by the emptying of people in our lives. Great job on your writing, sometimes you just need to let it out. Joy will return though, just keep your eye out for it, you never know when it'll find you

thank you for the review, i appreciate it
Joy is found in the most dull places sometimes, the past not being one of them. I know that too well.
A very relateable piece of writing, good job.

It may not have been your best work but it is still really good. We all have those feeling of loneliness and in my mind, they aren't that bad. To me I always thought that knowing how to survive alone makes you a stronger person in the end. I'm sure you still have friends man, people who care about your opinions and thoughts and really enjoy talking to you. I am sure they are willing to be there for you whenever you need them. I really like you as a writer and I can't wait to read more of your work
