Mental IllnessA Story by DailyTruth
Realizing that we're all in this fallen human condition together is the biggest thought that I affront in my battle with depression. Always being in a state of needing encouragement is the component that made me want to encourage others. When I confront a period of uncompromising sadness I search for a solution and then I approach a God of wisdom, not to receive an answer, but to be comforted. Truth is, every single person in this earth has a huge problem that only God can fix. Even the deceased can only be raised from their dry bones by the Lord. If that weren't the case then someone out there, one of your family members or friends, or even your idol, is withholding a huge secret from us all. Not by any means. There is no secret. There is no other answer other than the righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You see, we live in a world full of people with fostered affections. In my culture, young black America, the problem originates in a stubborn attempt to hide ourselves from others and pretend that we are not affected. We just go into defense mode. And the biggest defense that I've seen thus far is the vainglory of counterfeit joy. That's why I love the Church. It's a place where you can go and experience true joy, transparency, and true love. Show me a well rounded man and I'll show you one that epitomizes the Church of Christ. So if you're out there reading this and you or one of your loved ones struggle with mental illness, dry your eyes. We all need Jesus. I hope that this has inspired you. -Sequoya Williams
