Where I'm From

Where I'm From

A Poem by Dai Edenburough

I am from that knot in the wall,
from the pine trees of mountain forests.
I am from naughty pine walls, smelling acrid and foul.
Yet supportive and beautiful.
I am from the strong trunk of the Lodge Pole pine.
Whose long gone limbs I remember as if they were my own.

I am from the highways to gravel roads.
From the wheels of that junky Geo Metro that never stops going,
To that 4x4 stick shift pickup truck, that keeps the world working.

I'm from independence, faithfulness, and perfection.
From strong willed Mother.
I am from curiosity and exploration,
From determination to stubbornness
I come from those with work ethic epicness.

I am from those that are strong in the Voice,
Great in strength and of sound mind.
Gifted with the pen and with a sword.
I come ancestors that stood up for their Freedom
Always fighting for their rights and independence.
