Goodbye, Goodbye Michelle, Adieu

Goodbye, Goodbye Michelle, Adieu

A Poem by Poetic Injustice
"

A long and final goodbye (

"

Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu

Been seventeen years, never got over you

I guess it's high past time that I do

Goodbye, Michelle, adieu

~~~
Chance meeting, we were lovers that night
A classic case of love at first sight
Our night of passion then I went back home
Loving you long distance by phone
~
But as it turns out life got in the way
The lover before you had something to say
She told me she carried a child that was mine
A hard choice was made, I told you goodbye
~~~

Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu

I meant what I said when I said I love you

But it's the right thing that I now must do

Goodbye, Michelle, adieu

~~~
You called me in tears and wanted me back
I stood my ground and wouldn't backtrack
The first child miscarried and things fell apart
I called you, remorseful, but you kept your heart
~
Then she pulled me back through tears of her own
For her and our daughters I made a home
I tried to make it work for their sake
Never knowing how she would forsake
~~~

Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu

I meant what I said when I said I love you

But it's the right thing that I now must do

Goodbye, Michelle, adieu

~~~
It takes two hearts in love to thrive
And neither of us could make it survive
Her heart wasn't in it and neither was mine
Though painful, it was just a matter of time
~
Ten years had passed since I lost your love
I wanted to tell you how sorry I was
I knew I could never regain what I lost
I paid a price then and knew what it cost
~~~

Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu

Been seventeen years, never got over you

I guess it's high past time that I do

Goodbye, Michelle, adieu

~~~
I found your name on an internet page
My heartbreak for you hadn't faded with age
I sent a message to see if I could
Express my old heartache and be understood
~
You told me quite bluntly that you had moved on
Your son is now two and your marriage is strong
You hoped I had learned from my actions at last
You have a bright future, forget what is past
~~~

Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu

Been seventeen years, never got over you

I guess it's high past time that I do

Goodbye, Michelle, adieu

~~~
Goodbye, goodbye Michelle, adieu
Been seventeen years, never got over you
Gone are the days I can say 'I love you'
Goodbye, Michelle, adieu
Goodbye, Michelle, adieu
Goodbye .... Michelle ........ adieu
Ohhhhh noooo ! This is too painful for me Captain Pepper. Such a sad story full of hope then remorse then rekindlement with hope..always love....but so much pain. I don't do pain...I can't handle it...through a sheltered upbringing I guess. You will have learned so much...but not always what you want to hear and feel. I don't do partings either...in fact anything sad..haaaaaa !!! I'll be crying at the airport tomorrow saying bye to hubby and it's only for 10 days..teee heee !! So now you see how soft I am..I am no good to man nor beast when it comes to rejection or loss of love.
But it is a brilliant poem and thanks for sharing.
Wow. Beautifully written. Always thought something like this would overtake my life, just havent gotten to the point yet to see the regret this intensely. Very sad yet inspiring. Thank you for writing this piece.
Very sad but heart felt piece. Nicely written and deeply displayed here. Sometimes things just do not work out. This was very well written. Excellent job.
Excellent job with this Jay. As tempting as it can be to go back to the past and wonder 'If'...sometimes its better to move on, there must be something better in your future. Keep looking....or maybe if you stop looking so hard...it'll find you.
What a powerful, heartbreaking, yet hopeful poem. This reads like a short story. In a good way..So much detail and emotion throughout this piece. We have all longed to that love of yesteryear, sometimes that door is best kept closed. It did not work then for a reason. Hence, that reason would rear it's head today. A most excellent poem!!
