The Toast

I saw her smiling from her heart today

Though it wasn't me that made her

Passed up opportunity, anyway

Wasn't passed by another

It made me stop and think

The times I recklessly flirted

So now I raise my first drink

And address the feelings that I skirted

Caring compassionately

But then I'd back off, out of fear

Didn't think that I could keep

This is very nice and quite sad. Sometimes we look (but not see) an opportunity in front of us yet not know it because of our own self-loathing and blindness. We only see it truly for what it could have been once it is lost. This almost felt like a song. Nicely done.
