When I was in the Marine Corps female Marines were known as BAMS (broad a*s marines) or forth battalion which was the number of their battalion on Paris Island. The Basic training camp for Marine recruits on the eastern seaboard. Saying a Male marine was 4th battalion was meant as an insult. We had other names for female Marines but I'll spare you. Young, horny heavily armed young men can come up with some colorful names and phrases for things, but I digress. I think one of the problems facing women in the work place is a degree of aggression. When a man displays aggressive, authoritative behavior it's largely accepted as normal. When a woman does it she's often seen as a b***h. That's a deeply held cultural bias held by both men and women. I think that bias and other ideas of traditional feminine behavior cost Hillary Clinton the presidential nomination in 2008 against Obama as she was clearly better qualified than he was for the office. So was Senator Mc'cain for that matter but with the Bush Albatross around his neck and his idiot running mate Sarah Palin he had a snowballs chance in hell of winning that election. But I digress. Sorry

This point your making about aggression is very valid and one that I have witnessed. Aggressive male bosses are 'normal', but should not be. I think highly of Hillary, and one day.....who knows. There is also the doctrine of experience affecting our sub-conscious. Media showing 'men' as the boss, and media showing all 'male pilots' in a war film. Consciously, men may want women to fly planes. At the interview, she would likely fail due to the interviewers subconscious objection to the norm. Women don't fly spitfires!....they did you know. Thanks again for your time to consider my thoughts, and good to exchange views as always.
Yes, yes, it's still a man's world, no matter what they say or how far we've come. Nicely penned.

How unfair can it be to have a single income that is below the norm, when all the work is done by one. I feel quite strongly about that. Thanks for the review.

It seems to be embedded in the professional's sub conscious mind, that only men are any good at anything. In the conscious mind, it is improving, but we will not change their subconscious minds until as many women as men are in top jobs. Thanks for this review Vidya.
Excellent writing. This world, long dominated by men, is changing, but at a turtle's pace. The list of wrongs that need to be righted is long, I'm afraid. Still, we can have hope.

The world....hmmm...This week I have been reading/listening to an English female composer of music. Very well known during her life. Ethel Smythe was her name, (1858-1944). I have never heard of her until now. Interesting point....
