A dreamA Poem by DaffodilThis is a short little piece I wrote for a scholarship. Its about my dream. It all began on a stage, I was dressed as a daisy in a small yellow tutu and a flower petal bonnet. Lights beamed down on me, red velvet seats stretched as far as I could see. When the music started, I jumped, danced and spun in circles. Through my dizziness, I saw something amazing: the older girls gathered in the wings, they were dressed in large white tutus, their hair intricately twisted back. Tied to their feet were the prettiest shoes I had ever seen. There I was staring at them and they were staring straight back at me. It was then that I realized, I want to be a Ballerina. Over time, there were more bills to pay and kids to feed. Living in a low-income family meant that I had to stop dancing. When I was 15 years old, I found a small donation based ballet studio. I immediately enrolled and was given the opportunity to make my dream come true. Ever since I started, I’ve been living and breathing ballet, and I have never been happier. Dance is my life now, take it away from me and I have nothing. © 2011 Daffodil |
