Cinderella

Cinderella

A Poem by Ember Smyth

I feel like Cinderella
Way before the ball
Except without the animals
Helping me up when I fall
No one is there to comfort me
As I sit in the corner and bawl

I feel like Cinderella
Going to the ball
Except without the prince at the end
The fairy godmother, the dresses, no, not at all

I feel like Cinderella would have
If everything had gone like it should have
Without the magic nonsense
Without the lie of love

I feel like Cinderella should have
When her stepmother found out
The pain of the abuse
Pouring out of my mouth
All those bottled up feelings
Finally coming out
But it was no good thing
When stepmother found out

I feel like Cinderella
Without the stepmother's weight
When finally, she married the prince
And there was no more hate
Everything was fixed
All her problems solved
For when she was finally happy
All of her problems dissolved
