ElfA Poem by Ember Smyth
I see you
Through the window You're sleeping You don't know it But I'm watching I'm always watching I see you From behind a bush You're playing Are you being a good child? Or a bad child? You don't know it But I'm watching I'm always watching I see you From the top of your roof Throwing rocks at animals You're being a bad, bad, child You don't know it But I'm watching I'm always watching I don't see you You've been a bad child this year I'm coming down the chimney Stopping by the tree I look at it I don't have any gifts That's his job Taking care of the bad ones Is mine You don't know it yet But I'm coming I'm coming for you I see you Through the peephole in your door I open it You are sleeping So I take out my needle Your eyes wide as I stab you "You should have been good," I whisper You don't know it yet But I've been watching I've always been watching I see you I'm right in front of you Your ears elongated and pointy Your festive clothing perfectly matching the room You look at yourself And then around Confused "Welcome," I tell you "To Santa's Workshop," You scream They always do This is when they realize That they'll never go back home I see you Through the window You're working With the other elves It's dark And you're tired But that doesn't matter Santa's Little Helpers never sleep. © 2016 Ember SmythFeatured Review
