Acquaintances

Acquaintances

A Poem by Chelsea Schermerhorn

I see so many people
With friends and friends, galore!
They share their hearts and souls;
I wish for nothing more.
While others have close friends,
With whom they can compare,
wishes, dreams, and desires;
I am left alone, here
with only myself for company.
What is wrong with me?
I do not know,
but instead of those intimate friends,
I've naught but shallow relationships.
I "know" people,
and they "know" me,
supposedly,
but it's not what the surface
says it to be.
Those "friends" are not true friends,
they are merely acquaintances.
