CHAPTER 2

As Coronation Day drew nearer, many folks from other realms would come to the Card Kingdom, some, to see their families on such a momentous occasion, others, to see an event that, for some, happens only once in a lifetime.

With this croud of strangers came three brothers, who had lived in the Card Kingdom, but were now travelling around the world as outlaws. They wre known as “The Jokers” and spent most of their time stealing food or playing tricks on everyone they met.  Jack, James and Joey wandered from town to town and never left without blowing something up. Jack would talk to the people to see where the loot was, Joey would sneak in and James would keep a lookout, usually on the rooftops. That was how they spent most of their days. And so, one evening on the rooftops of the central town of the Card Kingdom, where the royal family lived, the brothers were sharing their well stolen meal during a beautiful sunset.

“I don’t know, guys.” said James leaning against a chimney. “Maybe we should make a Little change in our lives.”

“ Like what, mate ?” Jack asked.

“I don’t know. It’s just that… well, we could maybe settle down somewhere, and have a little house…”

“Oh , yeah, and live off bugs and our own juices. No, James, it just wouldn’t budge.  Even if we could afford a house, which we don’t, how would we live ?” Jack asked.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. But at least we could meet some girls.” James said hopefully.

“Oh, we can.” Jack said.

“And some are really pretty.”  Joey added.

“Yeah, but not permanently. I mean, we have to run from the cops before we can really get to know them.”

“I know where you’re going, man, and let me tell you something: Marriage ties.”

“Whoa, whoa, I’m not going …”

“Oh I know exactly where you’re going. But if you get hitched, you won’t be able to run anymore.”

“I guess so, unless she’s willing to run with me…”

“No girl who’s normal in the head would run like or with us. And believe me, you wouldn’t wanna run with one that isn’t.”  Jack finished.

“Have some bread, James,  Joey said, throwing him a bun.”

James caught it, looked at it and then threw it back, saying:

“I’m not hungry.”
