A Poem by D.White

It’s hard staying lit when the dark is always trailing you

So I’d soar between lines while keeping in mind it’s more than just pages

Disowning the fear and welcoming freedom

Today, Mentally, I’m in paradise

Wandering on a road searching for a way back home

Silencing doubt, from the voice that screams in the back of my head

Pressuring greatness to merge on the highway along with serendipity and journey

Embarking on a quest that challenges my sanity

The fight between a hidden voice and the dream

This life is a mystery but I refuse to back down

I finally stumbled upon concrete, a trail leading home

A path on the right step, that I gained stepping from the left

Traveling on a page that I should have never flipped to

I took dangerous steps but still landed on this destined map as if it was written in stone

I’m meant to be her

Fighting self plus ignoring his voice

I’ll silence it no more I was meant to be HER!

Her, difficult but resilient

Tired but ready

Scared but guided by faith

Marked but beautiful because she says so.

She’s been silenced by a torturer that lived within the same home that birthed her savior

Fear became a prison blueprinted by the devil himself yet she broke all ties while looking terror in his eyes

In that moment salvation slipped from her lips, breaking every hold, once placed on her

After that day she never looked back there was no need to

She carried a scar on her flesh birthed from that day

It reminds her, a thousand wrong steps in the dark can’t stop the body bred from light
